Fright Fest

September 11 to November 1, 2026

Fright Fest haunts Six Flags Over Texas on select dates between September 11 and November 1. 2026 sees the return of multiple haunted houses inspired by popular horror franchises, along with new live entertainment, including Wake the Dead Murder Mystery. An immersive new scare zone, Doc Varnum’s Hybrid Hell Pit, brings mysterious swamp fog, never-before-seen creatures and other horrors, while Dia de los Muertos debuts in the park’s Mexico section.

Halloween events officially began in 1988 at Six Flags Over Texas and expanded to several other parks within the Six Flags chain in the seasons to follow. The first Halloween-related activity at Six Flags Over Texas took place in 1973 and featured a parade and roaming monsters. In 1988, an annual Halloween event, Fright Nights, debuted. The event has always boasted spooky decor and Halloween-themed live entertainment. The 1992 season brought on the birth of Fright Fest. In 1999, the Six Flags chain had a series of haunted houses themed around Alice Cooper, marking the first time Fright Fest featured a popular franchise theme. Six Flags Over Texas’ well-known production, Welcome to Arania’s Nightmare, ran for twenty-five seasons inside the Southern Palace Theatre.
